Basic Troubleshooting Tips for Mobile and Smartphones

Check this easy step tips on how to fix certain phone problems and be aware of what causes it:

For Signal Issues (Poor/No Signal)

  1. Walk into another place and check if your signal improves.
  2. Try to go outside if you are in a closed place and find an open area.
  3. Restart your mobile or smartphone.
  4. For smartphones, turn the airplane mode on and off or go to Settings > SIM Management > Turn off and on the SIM Information.
  5. Check your Network Mode under your Mobile Network Settings > Network mode, Set it on GSM/WCDMA mode (auto mode). Sometimes, 3G/4G Network is not available in other places.

For SIM Errors, such as delay or can't send or received text messages and phone calls

  1. Turn your mobile or smartphone off and remove the sim. Clean the sim contacts (metal part) with a pencil eraser and re-insert into the phone.
  2. Try to insert your SIM Card into another phone and check if it is working properly, then your phone has a problem. If it is not working fine, the sim card has a problem.
  3. For other SIM Card/Network concerns, try to reach your network's customer service provider. Click here to check the full list of Telecommunication companies' contact details.

For Phone Errors

  1. For mobile phones, On and off your device, if restarting your phone did not solve the problem, it is more likely in the memory/hardware. Try to remove some messages and not important files then check if it helps. If not, go to the Phone Repair Shops or Service Center near you.
  2. For smartphones, reboot your phone. If the error still persists, try to remove/uninstall the apps or games you installed before. Another option is by restoring your smartphone in a default setting or by clearing the data and cache of your phone.

Charger/Charging Issues:

  1. Check the cable wire of your charger if there are broken or cuts.
  2. Check and clean the port for dirt.
  3. If charging too slow, check the rating of the charger or you're using the correct charger for your device because it is not recommended to use third-party chargers.

  4. I remember when I was once a call center agent, Americans would call regarding basic mobile problems which requires basic troubleshooting they didn't had any idea about. I was thinking, if only they had read the manual, they would know the basics like turning the phone on and off.

  7. One time when I went to a phone repair shop in our Barangay, my sim card was not being recognized so I thought maybe I needed to have it checked. The repair man took out a pencil eraser and rubbed it on the chip of the sim card. And my sim and phone worked again. LOL! Knowledge is indeed powerful... and cheaper. :) I'll keep this on my 'life skills' notes. Very informative as always! ;)

  9. I also just recently discovered the tweak for the phone signal. I switched mine before to WCDMA only to get faster internet but I noticed I have trouble sending messages at home. Great tips btw.
